Here at The Gold Trader, we are running a business, as such and because we offer some of the best prices on the market, we require a minimum of 5 grams of gold. Parcels containing less than 5 grams of gold, platinum or palladium will carry a £25 admin and postage fee for their return.
The Gold Trader and its Director have one simple rule; In business, “keep things easy, simple and transparent for everyone”. Every business or company has a start day, The Gold Trader.co.uk is no exception, our commencement day was during late 2023, however, our team has a wealth of experience in the area of gold trading both at auction and through over 30 years of self-trading. Our parent company, Angel Auctions, has been trading since 2021, and in that relatively short period has become highly regarded for our honesty and fair-trading policies. We have many genuine happy customers who have sold us their precious metals and jewellery. Angel Auctions Ltd is a fully registered company on Companies House and is registered in England and Wales, number: 15055524.
All your items will be handled and assessed by our highly trained valuers and we are insured against theft and loss.
In the unlikely event of any issues, we are contactable at info@thegoldtrader.co.uk and our Director will look into it personally.
Our Terms & Conditions are all laid out on our website and it is highly recommended that you read them carefully so there are no misunderstandings. Click HERE to view them. In the event of any contradictions with this section, our Terms and Conditions take precedence.
To sell your gold, silver or platinum to The Gold Trader, you must be at least 18 years of age. We may require proof of this along with proof of your address.
We are pleased to send you one of our FREE Customer Sellers Packs; inside you will have a padded bag in which to place your items of gold and these should be then placed securely inside our FREE Pre-Paid Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed Returns Envelopes and taken to your nearest Post Office for sending to us. It is also important that you include a detailed itemised list of the items you are sending to us and that you keep a copy of this for your own records along with the proof of posting from the Post Office.
Yes, it is– providing you use the Royal Mail Special Delivery “Tamper Proof Envelope” and the protective padded bag issued with The Gold Trader FREE Customer Sellers Pack which we send you.
This package is tracked from the Post Office of your choice until delivery with us. Over 99% of these packages will be received the very next working day. Your items are fully insured by the Royal Mail against loss or damage in transit for up to £2,500. In the very unlikely event that your parcel shows any sign of tampering or damage, we will refuse delivery in order for you to validate your claim against the Royal Mail.
No problem, simply request another FREE Customer Sellers Pack from The Gold Trader and send more items in this envelope, again using the same method as described earlier. If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to contact our office on 01227 934567.
This is not a problem. Fill out your ‘Itemised List’ with what you do know, and we will do the rest. Upon receipt of your items, our expert valuers will establish any different gold grades and value them accordingly. We will not differentiate between hallmarked or unhallmarked gold, we do NOT pay a lower rate for unhallmarked gold. “Gold is Gold and the Grade is the Grade”. Our testing system will clearly show us what grades of gold you have sent us and we will pay our rates accordingly. All payments are based on volume, i.e. the more gold weight you send us, the better rate we can offer you.
Please do not think you must send only perfect condition items. We are pleased to make offers on all gold; broken, scrap, dental or perfect. After all, we buy the items, predominantly, in order to melt them down so their condition does not matter to us. So please do not worry about that.
When your FREE Customer Sellers Pack arrives, we follow a step-by-step process:
- We allocate you a unique customer reference number
- Your package is then opened, whilst being videoed under strict CCTV filming conditions, by our valuers and its contents checked against the ‘Itemised List’ you filled in.
- All items are then individually photographed and as a whole. Copies are then sent electronically to you for confirmation by you that we have what you sent. At this stage, if there are any discrepancies we will discuss this with you before any testing is commenced.
- The valuers will separate different metals and grades of metals, those that are hallmarked will be placed into their respective grades, as hallmarked, and any unhallmarked items will be kept separate for testing and grade clarification. We use two, (2), methods of grading all items, the first is by using a sophisticated and highly accurate testing gun that will indicate the precise grade. The second method is by acid testing where necessary. Once this stage is complete, we then weigh the respective grades in order to establish the total value of your items.
- You will then be contacted with an offer. If you accept the offer, we will agree with you which of our payment methods (as described below) you prefer.
- Should you decide not to accept our offer, your items will be returned to you at our cost. The above procedures are followed to protect all parties in the transaction.
Because gold prices fluctuate several times throughout the day our offer is valid until 4.30pm on the day it is made. We are happy to make an offer again based on the daily price the next day.
Please see the ‘What we buy’ section on this website but essentially, we buy all types of gold, silver or platinum as well as Diamonds of good quality.
We appreciate that not everyone will have access to scientific grade gold/jewellery scales that are approved by His Majesty’s Weights and Measures Act of 1985. We keep things very simple and use grams as our weighing method and we measure to 0.01 level of weight. Most other companies will use Troy ounces (which equate to 31.1035 grams per Troy ounce), however, we have found that this method might be confusing so we prefer to keep things easy.
Again, please do not worry, we are very aware that most customers will use kitchen scales, which are not the most accurate tool to use when weighing gold and jewellery. This is why we measure everything accurately and take photographic evidence of the weight, which we are happy to send to you electronically as proof of the actual weight if required or requested.
As soon as we have checked everything against your itemised list, our valuers will weigh your gold using highly accurate electronic scales. We can notify you of the exact weight when making our offer, helping you to sell your gold to us at its most efficient and best price on the day.
Selling your gold, silver and platinum to The Gold Trader could not be easier and we are pleased to offer 2 payment options. All payments are made Monday – Friday and no later than the working day after you accept our offer.
- Cash via Post Service. We can send you cash to anywhere in the UK via Royal Mail Special Delivery, an insured service by the Royal Mail. If you wish to use this service, we will charge you £9.75 postage fee to pay for this cash via Post Service and to cover our extra administration costs in handling cash. We will send you the cash in British Bank notes and £1 or £2 coins, with the amount rounded down to the nearest whole pound. The cash will be sent in a secure and insured envelope and will need to be signed for at your address. Over 99% of these will arrive the very next working day. Please note that upon signature, proof of recipient will be required usually.
- Our preferred Method: Direct bank transfer to your Account. We can pay straight into the account of your choice in the UK, with funds leaving our account no later than the day after you agree to our offer. There is no charge for this service. We will send you a payment receipt confirming the money has been transferred. The bank account must be under the same name as the person or company that originally sent in the gold to The Gold Trader for selling.
At The Gold Trader, we like to think that the rates we offer are extremely competitive when compared to the open market. We monitor the up-to-date gold price at least twice per day and update our website and offering system accordingly to ensure that we offer a very competitive price alongside our acclaimed service. Our goal is to build a long-term business relationship with our customers, largely based on referring their friends and relatives to us.
If you are happy with our service, we trust that you will refer your family and friends to us – so, to say a huge thank you when you do, The Gold Trader will pay both you and our referred customer, £25 as soon as we buy over £50 worth of Gold from them. Please see “Refer A Friend” Section of the website for further details.
They sure do. All our reviews and testimonials are from 100% genuine customers who have sold gold, silver or platinum to us.
Due to the nature of our business, unfortunately, once you accept our offer and payment has been made to you, your gold and other items may be sent immediately for melting down. So, it is not possible to change your mind once you have agreed to sell and we have sent payment. We always give our customers until 3.30pm the day after our offer is made to change their mind. However, once accepted and payment made, then we cannot cancel the sale. If you take until the following day to agree the offer, The Gold Trader, reserve the right to adjust our offer, this can be either increased or decreased dependant on the rates at that time.
If we are unable to contact you by telephone, we will write to ask you to call us. If after 14 days we have still not been able to make you a verbal offer, we will send you a payment for your items. If you are not happy with the payment you will have 7 days to return the payment and we will return your items 5 days after receiving the payment minus a fee of £25 for any administration incurred for this transaction delay.
The Gold Trader cannot be held responsible for any loss of items if sent via your own chosen postal route, this is why we recommend not taking this option. For the sake of an extra couple of days wait, we strongly recommend that you complete our FREE Customer Sellers Pack request form on our home page and we will get the pack out to you immediately.
Not a problem at all, we are happy to return any specific items and buy the other items you still wish to sell.
We will always consider making an offer on what we feel are good quality and of substantial size diamonds and gemstones, so long as they are in good condition. However, as our main business is the recycling of gold, platinum and silver, there is no payment for items which include small or bad conditioned stones. We would always advise the removal of these before sending them in to us.
